At this point I could move on straight to the account of the Transfiguration but I wouldn’t be doing my job if that were the case. This puzzling verse at the end of yesterday’s offering needs investigation.
I am not doing any more on it for now. It is time for you to go to work and find out what you think this verse means. Let’s face it, most times we come across a puzzling verse like this, most of us just put it in the too hard basket and figure who are we to work out something complicated like this. Well I think you have been around Bible Gems long enough to attempt this one on your own. If you get it wrong at least you tried. I have even given you the first step by laying all the alternatives according to the versions in front of you.
- What is meant by this statement of Jesus?
- Who are the some or “certain people”?
- Who are the people Jesus is speaking to?
- What does “taste death” mean?
- What does it mean to see the kingdom of God?
These are all elements of the puzzle which have to be answered to come to a sense of what Jesus meant?
Some “experts” have concluded that Jesus was referring to the “paraousia” [the second coming] and He was just plainly in error. Is that an option you can accept?
Try it now and I will look at it next Gem.
Even if you fall on your face, you’re still moving forward.
