I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope He has given to those He called—His holy people who are His rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him.
Ephesians 1:17-19
Wow, pray for me too Paul. Those are good things to pray. It is important to use the Word of God to pray. Using the Word keeps your prayers focused and on track. It ensures you are praying in the right way with the right perspective. As I have taught people in the Effective Pray-ers Seminar:-
- Pray the prayers
- Pray the promises
- Pray the principles
Where there are prayers recorded in Scripture, learn to take the prayers that are recorded there and pray them back to God. We will look at that idea further in a moment. Take the promises you find in the Bible and pray them back to God. Reiterating the Promise to God and then claiming it for your own if indeed you fulfill the conditions if there are any attached. Then lastly pray the principles. When you are aware of a principle in Scripture, turn it into a prayer and pray it back to the Father.
Now let’s look at the prayer in this example of Ephesians 1:17-19
Ask God, the Father:
- To give you spiritual wisdom
- To give you insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.
- To flood your heart with light so that you can understand the confident hope He has given to those He called
- To show you His rich and glorious inheritance.
- To understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for you.
These are some very important and crucial things to prayer or have prayed over you. Both personally and for your family and friends.
