Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are their ancestors, and Christ Himself was an Israelite as far as His human nature is concerned. And He is God, the One who rules over everything and is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.
Rom 9:5
Did you see this buried little Gem that many skip over in their haste to read the daily passage while not really taking it in?
Let me spell it out for you :-
and Christ Himself
was an Israelite
as far as His human nature is concerned.
And He is God,
the One who rules over everything
and is worthy of eternal praise!
Does this make it clearer? “and Christ Himself . . . is God, the One who rules over everything and is worthy of eternal praise.”
In short “Christ . . . is God”
They will go to any lengths over this disputed text. The critics have tried to divide the text differently so the strength of the above statement is watered down. The results?
- “. . . the human ancestry of Christ. God, who is over all, be forever praised.”
- “. . . Christ, who is over all. God be forever praised.”
These are wrong translations. The translation as it appears at first is the most accurate one.
- The Greek word order favours that rendition.
- A doxology always begins with the word “blessed”.
The doxology doesn’t belong in the passage if there is not an expression of Christ’s deity. The reference to the human nature of Christ requires a balancing expression of his deity, if Christ is not identified as God then such a reference is missing. This is also part of the problem as to why the promise has not been fulfilled for Israel because they have not appropriated the promise and accepted the Messiah.
Don’t let any little gem of Scripture pass you by. Carefully examine each verse. Be honest, how many of you have not seen this connection between Christ and God before?
He who kneels before God can stand before anyone.
