and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. [ASV]
We have now reached the moment when I have to make a significant change to the propositional analysis. It is not that I have been deceiving you. It’s that it is difficult to put an element of the layout in two places at the same time. Let me spell it out and make it clear to you.
Here is the propositional analysis layout as you have seen it up until now:
Wherefore also God highly exalted him,
and gave unto him the name
which is above every name;
that in the name of Jesus
every knee should bow,
of beings in heaven and
beings on earth and
beings under the earth,
and that every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is LORD,
to the glory of God
the Father.
Here it is with one subtle change:
Wherefore also God highly exalted him,
and gave unto him the name
which is above every name;
that in the name of Jesus
every knee should bow,
of beings in heaven and
beings on earth and
beings under the earth,
and that every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is LORD,
to the glory of God
the Father.
If you compare both propositional analysis layouts you will see that I have moved Jesus’ name that is above every name into its rightful position on the layout. The problem has been the last that in the layout is not a relative pronoun but rather the marker which introduces indirect speech i.e. every tongue should confess that . . .
- He said that [he wanted to tell the truth.]
- She said that [she wanted to find the truth.]
- God said that [Jesus is the Truth.]
Hence up until now I have placed the equative verbal clause in the position of the complement of what every tongue should confess.
Every tongue should confess that [Jesus is Lord].
Only now I have moved the statement of what every tongue should confess into its position which places that NAME that is above every name in ITS rightful place – in line with the NAME that [is above every name].
Not only that but it brings Jesus back into line with God the Father.
Even though THIS ONE was in the very Morph of God, He emptied Himself of everything that was of God and took the lowliest place, only now to be placed at the highest place. Are you getting things in the right perspective? Everything has turned full circle and Jesus is now in HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE. There can be only ONE NAME that is above every name. Think about it before the next Gem. I am sure you can figure out now which names need to drop off the list and which ones remain.
Keep watching this space.
There is only one name greater than all others, before whom all should bow and confess.

This is the moment of the great reveal in the writings of Paul.
Ian Vail
All Gospel writers and all the disciples come to make the confession, if not all individually, then at least collectively with one spokesperson making the confession on behalf of all.
Ian Vail
The question is: Will you bow the knee and make the confession as well?
Ian Vail
The NAME that is above every name will be revealed in the next Gem. Finally! It will have only taken 20 Gems to get to the point of what the Name that is above every name actually is by the time of the next Gem. Well you have to admit that these seven verses of That Majestic Passage are packed with astounding things. It really does need us to take our time to unpack every nuance. But then it will take me a few more Gems to unpacked the NAME ITSELF. We will not finish this Majestic Passage with the next Gem. As I am fond of saying in the context of Deeper Bible . . . There’s always more.
