Then His disciples said, “At last You are speaking plainly and not figuratively.
John 16:29
Well that’s strange. I would say He was still speaking figuratively.
He said “I have spoken of these matters in figures of speech, but soon I will stop speaking figuratively and will tell you plainly all about the Father.
John 16:25
I don’t think Jesus meant He would stop speaking figuratively right then. He said “soon”, not “now”. A sentence or two later they say “At last You are speaking plainly and not figuratively.” Oh you foolish and impetuous disciples. Who them? Or us? Are we any different? We have the benefit of hindsight and the Scriptures. Put yourself in their place. I am sure I would be making the same mistakes and more.
Now we understand that You know everything, and there’s no need to question You. From this we believe that You came from God.”
Jesus asked, “Do you finally believe?
Joh 16:30=31
Wow we get it. You are not speaking in riddles anymore. We understand that you have come from God and yes we really believe now.
The Version Differences:
Question:
- (BBE) Jesus made answer, Have you faith now?
- (CEV) Jesus replied: Do you really believe me?
- (GNB) Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?
- (ISV) Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?
- (NLT) Jesus asked, “Do you finally believe?
Statement:
- (GW) Jesus replied to them, “Now you believe.
- (NIV) You believe at last.
Do you finally get it guys? Wow that is good. But even though this statement has been made there is more to come in their understanding. But even though we see all the pieces before us and have the benefit of hindsight we need, still we have not got to the essence of what is being said here. More in the next Gem, hang on to your hat.
Santa rides in a sleigh. JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.

Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
